Model Elements are the various parts of the workflow process, including Humans, Processes, Events and more. Drag, drop, and connect the various Model Elements to construct the workflow. The Model Elements are shown to the left in the sample screen below:

The following table details the available Model Elements. Each element is described in more detail in the subsections that follow.
Element | Description |
|---|---|
Start | The green Start circle displays in the workspace by default. It represents the beginning of a workflow process and triggers the connected activities. |
End | The solid red End circle also displays in the workspace by default. This “terminal end” represents the end of the overall workflow process. The workflow is closed or completed when the activity connected to this End circle is complete. |
Human | This element represents a task performed by an eCASE user. Human activities must be associated with a role.. |
Process | This element represents an automated process that is part of the workflow. To invoke a process activity, a procedure must be associated with a process. The procedure runs automatically when the event is triggered and the scheduler runs the task. The scheduler can be configured to run frequently. |
User Event | This element represents a manual action initiated by an eCASE user. A user event can represent another point of entry into the workflow, the start of a sub process, or a manual start to the overall workflow based on an action such as an eCASE user clicking on a UI event. |
Timer Event | This element represents a system-initiated action. A timer events can represent another point of entry into the workflow, the start of a sub process, or a timer-triggered event executed by the system. |
End Event | This element represents an “intermediate end” to a sub process within the workflow. |
Each Model Element has unique configurable settings. Select an element to open the element’s individual settings. The unique settings for each Model Element type are described in the following sections.
NOTES:
Start and End model elements (default/required) do not have Settings pages.
