Redacting Pages

Redaction is necessary when confidential information must be removed from a document before final release. Redactions are retained when deskewing a page or when page rotation settings are applied. Redactions, review objects, and any image operations are saved in a Review Layer, which is associated with a Folder or a Section within a Folder.

Steps to Redact Pages

  1. Click Document Management > Search Folders.

  2. Enter search criteria as needed to locate the Folder containing the Page(s) you want to redact.

  3. Click Search.

  4. From the search results, select the checkbox next to the Folder containing the Page(s) you want to redact.

  5. Click Open Folders. The Document Management screen displays as shown below.

  6. Expand the Folder and any Sections to display the Page(s) you want to redact, as shown below.

  7. Click on a Page you want to redact.

  8. Click the icon.

  9. Click and drag your cursor over the page to draw a rectangle over the area of the document you want to redact. After drawing the redaction, the Select Redaction Codes window displays as shown below.

  10. Select the Redaction Codes you want to apply.

  11. Click Select.

NOTE: Right-click a redacted area to display the following redaction editing options:

Option

Description

Redaction Codes

Opens the Select Redaction Codes window where you can modify, remove, or add Redaction Codes.

Comments

Adds a note or comment to the redaction.

Back Color

Adds a configurable background color to the redaction.

Border Color

Adds a configurable border color to the redaction.

Fill Mode

Displays the redaction as Opaque, Translucent, or Transparent.

Text Color

Allows you to choose the Text Color.

Font

Allows you to choose the Font and Font Size for the visible redaction codes.

Code Alignment

Where within the redaction box the Redaction Code will reside

Delete

Deletes the redaction.

Move Codes to Margin

Moves the Redaction Code(s) to the margin of the screen.

Revoke Codes From Margin

Moves Redaction Code(s) from the margin back to the redaction.

NOTE: This option is not available when the page is fully redacted. and will only appear if a Redaction Code is in the margin. Right-click an area that is not redacted to display the following options:

Option

Description

Redaction Mode

Enables or disables Redaction Mode. When Redaction Mode is enabled, the Redaction Tool will be selected.

Polygon Redaction Mode

Enables or disables Polygon Redaction Mode. When Polygon Redaction Mode is enabled, the Polygon Redaction Tool will be selected.

No Review Tool

Deselects any selected review tools.

Redact in Full

Redacts the entire page. If selected, the page will display a icon in the Document Tree. Selecting Undo Full Redaction will cancel the Redact in Full action.

Select All

Displays a box surrounding all Redactions that are applied to a Page, clearly marking the location of each redaction on the page. Click outside the selected area to cancel.

Set Review Tag

Applies a specific review tag to the page.

NOTE: A full redaction will overwrite any other review object excluding highlighted text.

  1. Click the Save Review Layer icon as shown below.


  2. After clicking Save Review Layer, the Save Review Layer window appears as shown below:

Fill in the fields on the Save Review Layer window. These fields are described in the table below:

  1. When all fields are filled, click Save to save the review layer with the details provided.

  2. When the redactions and review are complete, click the icon to exit the Document Review screen.

NOTE: While Review Layers are saved automatically when moving between pages, the steps below explain the process of saving a Review Layer manually. To redact a word when it is double-clicked, enable the option under Preferences > Document > Draw Redaction Using Double Click.
