About Left Navigation Links
In Left Navigation configuration, Links direct the user to specific folders, contacts, URLs or other useful information with a single click. The Left Navigation configuration allows you to create custom links and add these under groups in the left navigation.
There are six types of links you can create:
Link Type | Description |

URL | Redirects to a specific URL |
New Folder | Redirects to the application’s folder creation page for a specific case type |
Open Folder | Redirects to an open folder in the application |
Contact | Redirects to the creation page for a specific contact type |
Search Criteria | Conducts a search based on predefined search criteria. When clicked, this link redirects to the results of that search |
App Form | When this link is clicked, it redirects to a specific app form |
Each of these link types is described in the following sections.
Add New URL Link
Follow the steps below to add a new URL link to your application’s left navigation panel.
1. Navigate to the App Designer (Settings > Applications > App Designer), then click the Left Navigation option (under User Interface). The Left Navigation screen appears.
2. Click New Link to create a new link. The New Link screen appears:
3. Under Link Type, select URL:
4. Select a Parent Group, where the link will appear in the navigation.
5. Provide a Label for the link. This is the text that appears under the Group in the left navigation.
6. Optionally, add an Expiration Date (in mm/dd/yyyy format) and use the Active checkbox to determine if the link is current active.
7. Provide the URL where the user will be directed when the link is selected from the left navigation.
8. Click Save to save the link.
9. The Left Navigation screen refreshes with the new link added under the parent group.
Add New Folder Link
Follow the steps below to add a New Folder link to your application’s left navigation panel.
1. Navigate to the App Designer (Settings > Applications > App Designer), then click the Left Navigation option (under User Interface). The Left Navigation screen appears.
2. Click New Link to create a new link. The New Link screen appears:
3. Under Link Type, select New Folder:
4. Select a Parent Group, where the link will appear in the navigation.
5. Provide a Label for the link. This is the text that appears under the Group in the left navigation.
6. Optionally, add an Expiration Date (in mm/dd/yyyy format) and use the Active checkbox to determine if the link is current active.
7. Under New Folder Parameters, first select a Case Type from the dropdown.
8. Next, you have the option to predefine some case fields so they are filled in when the new folder opens. First use the lower dropdown to select a field, then click the + to add the selected field:
9. A field appears to capture a prefilled selection for the field you selected in the previous step. Use the dropdown to select an option to prefill this field.
You can add more prefilled fields by repeating steps 8 and 9 as needed. Alternatively, click the Trash icon to delete fields you’ve added.
When complete, click Save to save the link.
The Left Navigation screen refreshes with the new link added under the parent group.
Add Open Folder Link
Follow the steps below to customize the left navigation with a link redirecting to an open folder.
1. Navigate to the App Designer (Settings > Applications > App Designer), then click the Left Navigation option (under User Interface). The Left Navigation screen appears.
2. Click New Link to create a new link. The New Link screen appears:
3. Under Link Type, select Open Folder:
4. Select a Parent Group, where the link will appear in the navigation.
5. Provide a Label for the link. This is the text that appears under the Group in the left navigation.
6. Optionally, add an Expiration Date (in mm/dd/yyyy format) and use the Active checkbox to determine if the link is current active.
7. Provide the Folder ID for the folder the user will be directed when the link is selected from the left navigation.
8. Click Save to save the link.
9. The Left Navigation screen refreshes with the new link added under the parent group.
Add Contact Link
Follow the steps below to customize the left navigation with a link to create a new contact.
1. Navigate to the App Designer (Settings > Applications > App Designer), then click the Left Navigation option (under User Interface). The Left Navigation screen appears.
2. Click New Link to create a new link. The New Link screen appears:
3. Under Link Type, select Open Folder:
4. Select a Parent Group, where the link will appear in the navigation.
5. Provide a Label for the link. This is the text that appears under the Group in the left navigation.
6. Optionally, add an Expiration Date (in mm/dd/yyyy format) and use the Active checkbox to determine if the link is current active.
7. Select a Contact Type from the dropdown list.
8. Click Save to save the link.
9. The Left Navigation screen refreshes with the new link added under the parent group.
Add Search Criteria Link
Follow the steps below to customize the left navigation with a link to a predefined system search.
1. Navigate to the App Designer (Settings > Applications > App Designer), then click the Left Navigation option (under User Interface). The Left Navigation screen appears.
2. Click New Link to create a new link. The New Link screen appears:
3. Under Link Type, select Search Criteria:
4. Select a Parent Group, where the link will appear in the navigation.
5. Provide a Label for the link. This is the text that appears under the Group in the left navigation.
6. Optionally, add an Expiration Date (in mm/dd/yyyy format) and use the Active checkbox to determine if the link is current active.
7. Under Search Type, use the top dropdown to select either a Folder Search or Boolean Search.
8. Use the lower dropdown to select predefined search criteria.
9. Click Save to save the link.
The Left Navigation screen refreshes with the new link added under the parent group.
Add App Form Link
Follow the steps below to customize the left navigation with a link redirecting to a new app form.
1. Navigate to the App Designer (Settings > Applications > App Designer), then click the Left Navigation option (under User Interface). The Left Navigation screen appears.
2. Click New Link to create a new link. The New Link screen appears:
3. Under Link Type, select App Form:
4. Select a Parent Group, where the link will appear in the navigation.
5. Provide a Label for the link. This is the text that appears under the Group in the left navigation.
6. Optionally, add an Expiration Date (in mm/dd/yyyy format) and use the Active checkbox to determine if the link is current active.
7. Use the App Form dropdown to select an app form where the user will be directed on clicking the link.
8. Click Save to save the link.
9. The Left Navigation screen refreshes with the new link added under the parent group.
